Who to Believe – 300 Top Climate Scientists, or a “Highly Intelligent” President?

A prevailing thought, which is expanded upon by Scientific American, is that climate change does exaggerate the extreme weather events we’ve been experiencing in recent years.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports that, “A changing climate leads to changes in the frequency, intensity, spatial extent, duration, and timing of extreme weather and climate events, and can result in unprecedented extreme weather and climate events.”

It messes with ocean currents, it provides additional heat to newly forming tornadoes, it lengthens droughts and Intensifies heat waves, which leads to increased precipitation and flooding.

These are all realities confirmed by the top climate scientists in the world, but what’s encouraging is that we are finally starting to see a previously skeptical public starting to pay attention.

2011 was especially abnormal. Following extreme flooding, droughts, heat waves, and tornadoes, there was a poll conducted by Yale Univeristy’s Project on Climate Change Communication which yielded some shocking results. 4 out of 5 Americans claimed to have experienced one or more of these extreme weather events, while a third of Americans reported being personally harmed by these events.

Furthermore, a vast majority of Americans believed that global warming was responcible for making many of these weather events much worse. These include – record high summer temperatures nationwide, droughts in Texas and Oklahoma, Mississippi River flooding, Hurricane Irene, and unusually warm winter temperatures.

The problem we’re having now, and im trying to figure a way to phrase this in a diplomatic way, is…dumb people. No, check that – just a single, dumb person. Becuase only a certifiably dumb person could reference is own “high levels of intelligence” as a reason to dispute, not only his own governments report, but the findings of hundreds of the worlds leading climate scientists. And that’s not even what earned him his honorary dumb-guy certification. That came when he attempted to expand his reasoning, stating that our water and air is at a “record clean”. WTF does that mean?

You know what, the transcript is too good to try and paraphrase, i’ll just let you read and enjoy…

When asked about the 1,600 page findings of his own administrations National Climate Assessment, Trump responded in the following way:

“TRUMP: One of the problems that a lot of people like myself — we have very high levels of intelligence, but we’re not necessarily such believers. You look at our air and our water, and it’s right now at a record clean. But when you look at China and you look at parts of Asia and when you look at South America, and when you look at many other places in this world, including Russia, including — just many other places — the air is incredibly dirty. And when you’re talking about an atmosphere, oceans are very small. And it blows over and it sails over. I mean, we take thousands of tons of garbage off our beaches all the time that comes over from Asia. It just flows right down the Pacific, it flows, and we say where does this come from. And it takes many people to start off with.”

That’s the leader of one of the worlds most powerful nations….talking like he’s only just started to maybe think about grasping the English language.

Let’s just hope the American people continue to listen to the smart guys, and not the dumb guys.
